Ancram Barn
Ancram, New York
Completed 2016
Design Team
Max Worrell, Jejon Yeung
Located on a 30-acre property in upstate New York, this new storage barn is a contemporary, minimal counterpart to the traditional structures on the property that draws on the region’s agrarian vernacular. The barn accommodates two cars, a dedicated potting area, and a flexible covered outdoor room that frames dramatic views to the Berkshire Mountains and beyond.
The building form is clean and simple—a single, unobtrusive gabled roof structure that nestles into the hillside. Inside, the prefabricated wood scissor truss structure and wood framing are left exposed. Material selections prioritized durability and low-maintenance without sacrificing warmth and honesty: a black metal roof, vertical black-stained hemlock wood siding on the exterior, and the same, unstained siding on the interior.

This barn embraces an unmistakably contemporary design while incorporating the agrarian vernacular of the Hudson Valley.
