Situated on a bluff edge overlooking Gardiners Bay, Frame House expresses its grid structure through a steel frame that establishes the rhythm of the house on the interior and exterior. Resulting from a desire for a transparent glass house, the modularity of the frame allows for considered placement of opaque walls that respond to the immediate site, solar orientations, and interior functions. These wood-clad walls fill portions of the frame, providing privacy on the landward and south-facing side of the house. On the bay side, large glazed openings maximize northern daylight and connect the interior with the surrounding grounds.

The natural slope of the site registers against the house and swimming pool lengths, revealing a carport at the cellar level carved into unmanicured native vegetation.

Illuminated by southern light filtered through tree canopies and clad in the same dark wood as the exterior, the double-height, clerestoried common area becomes a dramatic space.
