House HH is located in a pine forest in Columbia County in Upstate New York. Designed as a weekend retreat, the building sits firmly on a clearing in the hilltop and is formed by the forces of the surrounding landscape. The house shifts and rotates to create a strong connection between the unique landscape conditions; views to Catamount Mountain, rolling meadow, the wooded rocky hills, and the towering feature pine trees. The rotated second floor creates an expansive roof deck that provides an elevated space to enjoy the landscape.

The exterior facades are a combination of cast in place concrete and dark-stained hemlock wood siding. In contrast to the dark exterior, the interior is bathed in natural light with a muted material palette of ash wood floors and ash wood casework adding warmth.

Calibrated fenestration throughout allows the spaces to open up towards the more protected forest and large floor-to-ceiling windows create a direct link between the distant views and the primary social space.
